Exploring What We Sometimes Take for Granted; A Lenten Study
Have you said the Lord’s Prayer without giving it much thought? We probably all have at some point. In Luther’s Small and Large Catechism, the Lord’s Prayer is third in a list of teaching articles for the Christian to know. It follows the Ten Commandments and the Apostle’s Creed. It is a prayer that was taught to the disciples when they wondered how one should pray to God. Sermons have been written about it, scholars have explored its structure, and pondered what made it special. All that being said, The Lord’s Prayer is that prayer we carry in our memory that is helpful when we don’t know what else to say.
This Lenten Season I will examine the eight petitions in the prayer over 8 weeks on Wednesdays beginning February 10, 2021 (a week before the beginning of Lent), so that we can complete it during this Lenten season.
On each Wednesday morning (February 10 to March 31) at 10:00 a.m. I will offer an hour in-depth look at the Lord’s Prayer via Zoom. The sessions will be recorded, uploaded to Youtube and the link to them will be provided on our website, on facebook and through our weekly E-news. Likewise, on Wednesday evenings (also beginning February 10), I will include a devotion time during the Facebook live sessions at 7:30 p.m.. While we will continue to have announcements about our shared community life, I will offer a small reflection on each article of the Lord’s Prayer as well, and we will share a short end of day devotion time.

Either way you choose to participate, I hope this brief course will bring us all together to explore how we talk with God and how God speaks to us. Surely, these are times when a conversation with God could help us all.
If you would like a zoom invite for the Wednesday morning class, please email the church office.
