When? That is the number one question that I get. When? When can we return to normal?
Last week the church council talked about ideas of how to slowly and safely reopen our doors and expand our numbers at worship. Taking the care of the beloved community into consideration, recognizing that more and more of our members are getting the vaccine, noticing that some Sundays we are reaching our limit of 50 at worship, and listening to the CDC directions for safe gatherings, we came up with some ideas. The first change that we will introduce on Palm Sunday*** is that you can bring chairs and sit outside your cars as long as you do not wander and stay with your family group. We are trusting that you will respect everyone’s safety by observing these guidelines. We may even sing a hymn or two together.
Following these same guidelines, we will have two services on Easter in the parking lot at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. We are very much aware of the sound problems that we have had in the parking lot service. We are working to improve our transmission. We think that it is a small adjustment. We are also planning to add outdoor speakers for those who sit outside their cars.
As we watch the attendance of the services on Sundays when we worship indoors, we will move to two services to accommodate more. We will not exceed 60 people at each service and will continue not to sing. All precautions will continue to be practiced. The hours of these services were not discussed but will be announced when we make the change.
Other options have come to mind over the week but have not been discussed among staff and leaders. Do know that we are cautiously making changes as we see improvements. Please continue to be safe in public so that the numbers of affected people will decrease and the virus will be contained.
