Start the School Year Off Right and Be Blessed
Sunday, August 1 at Both Services
Start the school year with a special blessing. Join us on August 1st at both services as Pastor Mitchell blesses teachers, children, support staff, and their backpacks or book bags with a special prayer to begin the school year.
Bring your backpacks, computer bags lunch boxes, etc., Diane Thomas has special tags to attach to your bookbag as a reminder that God goes with you. We hope that everyone has a blessed school year.
Many Hands Make Light the Work
Join us on Sunday, August 15 for a playground workday. We have purchased two truckloads of mulch for the playground that will need spread on August 15 starting at 10:00 a.m.. We should be able to accomplish the task in two hours with adequate help. Bring a rake or shovel and lots of energy. Drinks will be provided. Help us to update the playground for the beginning of the Sunday school year. Contact Diane Thomas if you can help.
First Communion Classes
Communion Class Will Be Held in August
Is your child at least or approaching ten years of age or a rising fifth grader? This is the age that our church instructs children in the understanding of Holy Communion.
Was your child’s instruction interrupted by the pandemic? Please feel free to attend both classes again or just the second class and seder meal.
This is one of those special moments in a family’s life. At Christ the Lord, we like to make it a learning occasion as well as a time for the child to discuss his or her faith with his or her parents. The faith is strengthened when it is passed down from the family.
There are two classes, which will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Sundays, August 15 and August 22. The classes will last approximately one hour. We will celebrate together with a Seder meal at the church on Wednesday, August 25, at 6:30 p.m. This is the meal Jesus celebrated with his disciples at the Last Supper. The group will celebrate their First Communion on August 29. If you have a child that you wish to have communion instruction, please email the church office here.
Calling All Rising Sixth-Graders
Sixth grade is the first year of Confirmation class at Christ the Lord. The three-year Confirmation program ends in eighth grade with an Affirmation of Baptism celebration. There is a 6th-grade parent meeting scheduled for August 22 at 10:00 a.m. If you have a sixth-grader ready to begin confirmation classes on Sunday mornings this fall, please notify Diane Thomas through the church office or by email here.
